Profile : Murthy is Chemistry graduate with professional certificate on
“Supervising for Safety” through Home study course from National Safety Council,
Chicago, USA. In addition he holds a “Master Trainer” certification on Hydrogen
Sulfide (H 2 S)Safety from M/S. Eric Rosemann& Associates, an institute accredited
by the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) for conducting training
programs on different attributes of Safety in conformance with the prevalent
norms of American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Based on the above his
service is being retainedon sustainable basis by few industries dealing with
Hydrocarbon exploration/ extraction and processing.
Krishna possesses a long working experience in Chemical Industry (in the
Fertilizers and Petrochemicals sector) spanning 39 years (1963 to 2002); retired
as Chief of Safety Department at Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd., (IPCL),
Baroda in December, 2002. During the service period I have been actively and
passionately involved in all proactive efforts to facilitate safety (especially at shop
level) through personal rapport, contacts, hand holdingand counsels.
Post retirement (now entered the 16 th year) he has been engaged by Mahatma
Gandhi Labor Institute (MGLI), Ahmedabad from 2005 as a visiting faculty
(generally for the regular PDIS course and occasionally for the specific/ sponsored
short term training at the behest of both the above organizations). He is also
associated as a member of the screening committee for the admission of students
to the PDIS course in addition to the related assignments such as question paper
setting, answer sheet evaluation, guide work for project report, viva interviewer
for term work assessment etc., Besides KNK offers parallel service on the same
course (Two years in ‘Part time’ category) at the Reliance Industries Limited (RIL),
Jamanagar being held “in house” by the company for own employees at the
behest of M/S. Naik and Associates, Surat,
Murthy enjoys writing on different safety relevant topicsand used to subscribe
them to technical journals. 40 such articles in the “Safety Zone” column of
“Chemical World” magazine have already been published by Infomedia18Limited
(now Network 18), Mumbai.
The managing trustee of M/S. Yash Shelters (part of Yash group of
companies, Ahmedabad)had also appointed him as executive editor for
a monthly magazine – FIRESAFE WORLD –for one year between
2016 & ‘17.
During his occupational tenure he has been able to do some modest pioneering
work in various fields of Safety & Loss prevention which include , establishment/
administration of safety departments, training, inspections, audits, surveys,
technical studies, investigation of accidents,coupled with
motivation/development/ promotional activities, liaison with professional/
statutory bodies etc., besides document preparatory work on Safety Manuals,
Emergency preparedness/ response plan, complementing Standard Operating
Procedures (SOP) by incorporating appropriate safety attributes etc.,
Above all Murthy has a special obsession with training and have been reasonably successful
in adopting certain unique/ changing style of communication over the years by constantly
engaging the participants (through interaction, questioning, re capitulation, case studies,
workshops, table top exercises, role plays, mock-up drills at work locations, quizzing etc., ).
The accolades being received by him all through from the “stakeholders” at different levels/
categories/ crafts / positions from industries/ organizations bear testimony in this regard.
